Like I said before this was my first actual day at my internship and I was paired with a group of Italian children, a woman from Detroit and a native England-er whose and actor, teacher and waitress. Pretty much I got a feel for what teachers do and how they do what they do. Ruth ( the native) said it's like a baptism of fire, which I totally agree with.
Majority of the children spoke little English and their ages are from 5-10 years old. Did I mention that children are not my specialty?
Anyways hauling my stuff and being (feeling) under dressed (a blazer with a long cardigan) I trekked after the (very) Italian children through train stations, very briefly met my supervisor, and through the vintage streets of the city called Angel.
I've only been here for a few days and yesterday was the day that I got to see a lot of the old charm. I saw tea cups and I had to pull myself away from looking and wanting to purchase them, I was on the job no time for spending the British pounds or pences.
After walking for what felt like for hours we stopped in a beautiful park and had lunch:
I felt that I was in a park that you would find in Paris, the vintage buildings near by and in the distance, the old benches, the women sitting in the park speaking French, and the vintage gates. The feeling was amazing as I lounged around and watched the kids eat, and the pigeons walk around. Also in the park Ruth (the native England-er) read the book called We're Going on a Bear Hunt , by Michael Rosen
I'm not sure if I've heard this when I was younger but it was a cute book. But it also made me wonder how much of the children understood of what was being read to them. Ruth did act out some of the movements and I know they don't know too much, but still it made me wonder. On to the puppet show!
The puppet show was the exact same as the book, but obviously there was voice acting, and music added into the story to make it more entertaining. Here are a picture of the puppets they used:
and then here are the actors with the puppets
There are only four actors and two a usually required to operate a full puppet from what I saw.
Needless to say after watching the show is gave a different insight to puppets in general, If you're in England definitely stop in the Town of Angel and check out the Little Angel Theatre.
